More form the Knights Sanguine today, with a Librarian Dreadnought.
The blade of the force weapon was painted / inked blue first, before the top layer was painted on, leaving the blue in the recesses.
The hand holding the force weapon is the power fist I had left over from the Furioso (using the Venerable Dreadnought kit as that was the most suitable available at that time) I assembled several years ago.
From the other side...
...and finally, attack mode!
That's all for today,
Prospero

Painting Update - Part 8
Today's offering is from my Knights Sanguine - a command squad - complete with 3 plasma guns.
The squad was built from the new tactical squad box. I have used the new 32mm bases for the command squad only. This makes them stand out more when compared to the rest of the army, and avoids the problem of mixed base sizes within other squads.
I had run out of apothecary arms for this model, and so constructed my own by combining a power fist and a cut-down chainsword.
I was quite pleased with how the champions sword turned out, and may well finish it off with a coat of gloss varnish at some point. The lightning effect is something I eventually plan to apply to all power weapons across my different armies (though in different colours).
That's all for now,
Prospero

Land Speeder Completed
Well there is nothing like the build up to a tournament that gets me to actually finish building/painting models...
And the 40k doubles tournament was no exception, and it meant that two more units are now painted and making a fine addition to my growing Blood Angel force.
The First is the Land Speeder from my last post:
Starting with some pics of the lower weapon mount (which I forgot to do before it was painted.)
As my original intention was to use the Land Speeder with just a Multi-Melta, so all the weapon options needed to be removable. The weapon mount needed to be able to come off, and both the weapon options needed to be an option. So that made it slightly more of a challenge.

As I wanted the option to use the Typhoon launchers, they needed concealing, which I think I have achieved:

One final comment about how I painted the Land Speeder, the weapons themselves I used a some new paints that I recently bought. Vallejo Model Air MM gun metal metalizer, which turned out to be like a metallic black colour. Which I thought turned out quite nicely when finished with a black wash.
And Finally here is the second unit I had to paint, Mephiston:
Overall I am quite pleased with the results I achieved on these two models...

Space Marine Land Speeder (With Magnets)
Well it has been a while since my last post and we have been building up to another doubles tournament.
And this time we will hopefully do better than mid table obscurity (and remember to take some photos.) So Creidhnan will be handling the Camera :-)
This time however I have decided to take a Land Speeder, but I only had the points for one with a Multi-Melta. But as all the Games Workshop kits seem to come with all the weapon options it would be a waste not to have the option to use them...
So here goes...
The Typhoon Launchers:
I started with the weapons themselves inserting two small magnets (2mm x1mm), and then to ensure I got the magnets in the right place on the weapon mounts I put a small amount of paint on the magnets I was going to use. This had two benefits, One it showed me exactly where I should drill and two it helped show me the polarity so that I didn't put them in the wrong place (as they can be a bugger to get out without damaging what you have put them in.)

Left: two magnets are inserted into the weapon, and another two are place on top of them. The ends are then painted. While wet they are paced onto where they are to be mounted (right.)
Unfortunately I slightly damaged this one before I tried this method, but it didn't end up that bad in the end.
Next it was time to sort the under-slung weapons (Heavy Flamer and Assault Cannon.)

Now in my infinite wisdom i didn't take any photos of the weapon mount without a weapon on it. (These should come later, hopefully...)
The Multi-Melta/Heavy Bolter was very easy. Just another 2mm x1mm magnet where the guns should rest and another on the weapon controls and were done.
Here's another final pic before I start giving it a base cost with my airbrush.
Oh and before I go, here is something else I have on the go for the doubles tournament.

Heroquest and Prospero's Space Hulk painting mission
Another Heroquest session recently resulted in another hole fallen into by the barbarian, and more archery based trickery from the elf. Below are a few highlights...
Undead and Chaos seemed to be a theme in terms of opposition in this quest (note also the Elf's reaction to the appearence of the gargoyle... let the barbarian handle it!)
And now onto some painting. With a new edition of 40k likely very soon, I'm currently waiting to see what the new rules will mean for each of my armies, so instead of adding more stuff, I decided to tackle the pile of unpainted models - starting with the rest of the Space Hulk models.
This is my first attempt at doing a lightning effect on a weapon, but I'm already thinking of other models I could add this to!

For the marine with the heavy flamer, I wanted to make it look like it was actually in the process of torching a corridor.
I drilled holes into the barrels and inserted a pair of brass rods. To make my 'flames', I added green turf that I normally use for basing, mixed with lots of PVA glue. Its still a bit fragile at the moment, but a drop of superglue on top will make it much more solid.
Of course, these are still very much works in progress. I'm also converting one marine so that it could be used in 40K as a Sanguinary Priest - will bring you all some pics of that soon.
Thats all for now - comments and feedback are welcome!

Space Hulk
Well, another games night came and went - up this time... Space Hulk!
Mission: Cleanse and Burn Terminators: Prospero, Cortez Genestealers: Deathbringa
Objective: 2 Squads of Terminators have to fire their heavy weapons into target rooms. When this happens, they win. If the Genestealers get them though...
The marines achieved their objective with minimal casualties, but we decided to finish the turn that they did this (they went first, and the game should end as soon as their mission is completed). This allowed the foul xenos some measure of revenge as they wiped out half the marines! If the good guys had been just a little slower it could have been a very different outcome...
Following the game, I decided to get on with painting some Genestealers, as I have loads - many of which are the older type and poorly painted from many years ago. (The painted ones used in the game belong to Deathbringa) The final picture is a work in progress shot of the first of the new batch (breed?). Quite pleased with how its going.
That'll be it for now,
Prospero out.

DeathBringa at the Yorkshire Open Tournament Final
Well Sunday the 25th came round very quickly and I had 3 games of 1800 points 40k ahead of me.
Somebody had the bright idea to hold the tournament the day after daylight savings took effect. So we had to wait over an hour for all the players to turn up.
This was my 1800 point force:

Mission accomplished (DeathBringa's Painting Challenge)
Well its been a busy week for me painting wise, with more to paint than I usually do in a month compacted into little over a week.
It all started a week ago last Friday when I decided I to change my army I was going to use for the Yorkshire open tournament (More on that later...)
It wasn't a small change as you might have expected, but over 800 points of new units to paint (out of a 1800 point army!)
But after a many a late night after a fulls days work this is what I managed to come up with, and I was reasonably pleased with what I managed to do in such a short time.
And so without further ado here is the finished units....

DeathBringa's Painting Challenge
Hi all, its been a while since my last post.... But i'm still here :-)
You may have read an earlier post of mine that stated that I managed to scrape through to the next round of the Yorkshire Open Tournament (which is on the 25th of this month).
However I was wanting to change my army list so that it was slightly different... Well a lot different. I am still sticking with the Blood Angels, but there are a lot of changes to the 1800 point list.
The Death Company, StormRaven and a small assault squad are all coming out! And i am replacing them with a Terminator Assault Squad in a Land Raider Crusader, a Terminator Librarian, a Vindicator tank and another Sanguinary Priest in terminator armour (no prizes for guessing which unit he is going to hang around).
Now you may be asking, where is the challenge that your title suggests?? Well it comes to the fact that most if not all these models were not even built this morning (Saturday morning that is) and I have little over a week to complete them.
Saturdays Progress:
I managed to get them all built and undercoated, and even built some nice scenic bases for the terminators. The red amry builder spray comes in very handy as a bit of a time saver....
I also managed to pick out all the parts of the terminators that are not staying red in a black base coat. Same goes for the vindicator.
Here is a few pics of Saturdays progress:
Painting models seperatly to their bases is something new to me, lets see how that goes. The more eagle eyed of you may spot two of the nice Space Hulk Terminators in the above pictures (along with the Librarian).
The Sanguinary Priest is undercoated I promise you, just sprayed grey (to cover up how I half undercoated him red!) This should also help with painting the white armour...
The vindicator is also coming along nicely.
And last but no means least.... the land Raider Crusader for the terminators:
This is made from the redeemer kit, so I also need to work out how to make the guns interchangeable
Anyway lets see how I do, and if I meet my deadline, or if I have to fall back on to using the old list...

Preperation for the 40k Yorkshire Open Tournament (Pic Heavy)
Hi all,
I am gearing up to go to the 40k Yorkshire open tournament on the 19th of this month and I almost have everything painted. This is a scary concept for me as I haven't had a fully painted army for years. I fell into a trap, that I'm sure many veteran players out there have come across. Where you have too many armies to paint and it all gets a bit daunting.
So a while back I decided to just concentrate on one army (Blood Angels if you haven't already guessed...)
Its almost complete with small bits to do here and there, so I thought I would show you all my progress.
I really need to get a daylight bulb as this is throwing out some of the colours on the photos. So apologies for that.
This is my 1800 point Blood Angel force, that I will be taking. Bit bigger than I am used to as we normally play 1500 point games in my gaming group...
Here's a few pics of the individual units:
Assault Marines, with a Sanguinary Priest and Reclusiarch (who needs a jump pack...)
Devastator Squad: Almost finished, I am going to use 'Army Painter' quick shade on them and will post a pic of this when they are finished.
Tactical Squad: This has been painted since the White Dwarf codex came out... so quite a while.
Another Assault Sqaud, on foot with a Razorback:
Death Company, with Lemartes (that will ride in a Storm Raven), gone half and half with the Boltgun\Bolt pistol ratio.
Baal Predator, with Heavy Bolters:
And lastly The Storm Raven:
So there you go, quite a bit to do, with a lot of the units being 90% completed. Got 10 days to finish them...
What do you think? Please leave a comment below.
